The Xiaomi outdoor speaker is a bit larger than the previously released Xiaomi Pocket speakers, or Cannon speaker. It’s got a very nice finishing mesh and a pretty convenient orange carrying cord.
It’s equipped with a very decent 2600 mAh battery that provides 8 hours of listening time and comes with Bluetooth 5.0, giving you a 10-meter range. On the front, it’s got a small LED indicator to show whether the speaker is charging and if it’s connected to Bluetooth.
On the bottom backside of the speaker you’ll find its USB-C connector for charging and on the bottom of the speaker is the on/off button.
The top of the speaker is a dial that can be turned left-right and right-left to change the volume and that feels and sounds pretty nice.
The Xiaomi outdoor speaker has an IP55 rating making it rain-proof and it should be able to withstand water being sprayed at it from a nozzle. In my tests, it did survive that.
It’s waterproofing should not allow it to be submerged in water, like the UE boom speaker has for example. I was stubborn and DID have to try and submerge it. -It did not like that and the speaker died shortly after…
The sound quality is not all that bad for a speaker in this price range. It’s actually quite good. The low end is not as heavy as you would find on the Boom-2 that I have compared it with but it is A LOT better than Xiaomi’s Pocket Speaker that I have also compared it with.
Overall I really do like the outdoor speaker. It is affordable, it’s rainproof, it’s got BLE 5.0, it’s got USB-C charging and it does not sound all that bad! -Just make sure you don’t let it fall in the water and you should be OK!
